Catching up With Christine. Her journey, experience and words of wisdom to her peers.
Christine, tell us about your relationship with Kesho?
I have known Kesho now for eight years. After successfully finishing Primary School I did not have the means to join Secondary School. The head teacher of my Primary School referred me to Kesho Organization. I was given a sponsorship and joined Limuru Girl High School.
What did you do after finishing with Secondary School?
Through Kesho I got to know about scholarship opportunities at CfC Stanbic Bank. I applied and was given a scholarship that was awarded to only two students at that time at United States International University-Africa in Nairobi. I studied Business Administration and am awaiting my graduation expecting a GPA of 3.5 out of 4.
Congratulations Christine! What are your plans for the future?
I have responsibilities to my family and the community. I am looking for a job and would like to work for a number of years before going back to school. In the past I depended on others and it is now time for me to give back. I have eight younger siblings and they have to go to school, they need food and I want to assist in that.
What is your best memory with Kesho?
The day I was awarded the CfC Stanbic Bank scholarship I just went straight to the Kesho office. I had to tell the Kesho staff that I succeeded and had to share my joy and happiness. It was Kesho who informed me about that scholarship opportunity. They assisted me with the application process and we did mock interviews so that I was prepared for the application interview. I will never forget that moment and how I felt about it.
What kind of advise would you give young people who want to follow your footsteps?
Follow your passion! It is easier to achieve your goal if you do something you are passionate about. Education is the best thing you can do. It opens your mind and makes you realize your potential. When you are in Secondary School and University, maybe even far from home, you might see strange things. Stay true to yourself. Don’t copy your peers and live within your means.
Christine, we wish you all the best for your future.
